Inseego and Verizon have now launched a Verizon-specific variant of the MiFi Pro M4 mobile hotspot for $299.99.
This model shares the same core hardware as the AT&T and T-Mobile versions launched earlier this year, but adds support for Verizon's millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G frequencies. Like most mobile hotspots sold by carriers, it's optimized for the Verizon network and does not support many core frequency bands used by AT&T and T-Mobile.
Here are the supported bands:
- 5G (sub-6 GHz): n2, n5, n48, n66, n77, n78
- 5G (mmWave): n257, n260, n261
- LTE: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 20, 28, 48, 66
Inseego confirmed to us that, aside from the supported bands and mmWave support, the features and hardware are the same as those of the other versions, including an X72 modem, dual-band Wi-Fi 7, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and two TS-9 antenna ports. Of note, these antenna ports support only LTE and Sub-6 GHz 5G, not mmWave, which requires specialized internal antennas.
At $299.99, the Verizon version is $90-100 more than the AT&T and T-Mobile versions, likely due to the added cost of adding mmWave and the additional required certifications.
mmWave support is rarely useful for our audience of nomads, as it is very short-range and used only in denser urban areas and major venues like stadiums and airports.
Now that Inseego has released a version for each carrier, we hope an unlocked all-carrier version will be coming soon.
We have been testing the T-Mobile version of the M4 Pro, and so far, we have found it to be a good performer with no issues.
Key Mobile Internet Related Considerations:
- Verizon launched its own version of the Inseego MiFi Pro M4, a hotspot that is also available from T-Mobile and AT&T.
- The Verizon version supports only Verizon bands and adds support for mmWave frequencies, which the other versions do not have.
- The Verizon model is a carrier-specific device and would not work well if used on the AT&T or T-Mobile networks.
