Straight Talk Wireless is a prepaid subsidiary of the Tracfone brand owned by Verizon, and they recently made some changes to their plan lineup. Of interest for mobile internet are the changes to their Platinum Unlimited Smartphone Plan.
The Platinum Unlimited plan now comes with unlimited data on device, unlimited data available for mobile hotspot use capped at 5 Mbps, and access to Verizon's 5G UWB network.
As with most prepaid plans, the data is subject to network management at any time. Streaming is capped at 480p resolution.
The plan is $65/month and can be purchased online directly from Straight Talk, or in Walmart stores.
The Straight Talk Platinum Unlimited plan is somewhat similar to plans from Verizon's other prepaid brand Visible - but at a higher cost.
For instance - Visible+ includes 10 Mbps unlimited hotspot data, roaming in Canada & Mexico, 5GUW/premium data and 720p streaming resolution at just $45/mo (with frequent promotions). Visible Basic is more similar to StraightTalk Platinum Unlimited at just $25/mo.
But the Straight Talk Platinum Unlimited plan may still be a good option for those who want to be able to purchase refill cards in retail stores.
