AT&T launched a new day pass option for Apple iPads called the Unlimited Day Pass.
For $3 per day, the option provides the following:
- Unlimited, deprioritized, on-device data for 24 hours.
- Canada/Mexico included, but the terms state "2G off-network data speeds may apply."
- NO mobile hotspot is included.
- Video streaming is at SD resolution - 2 Mbps for customers with 5G iPads, and 1.5 Mbps for customers on LTE iPads.
- The plan is data-only, no voice or sms/text service is provided.
- AT&T's terms state that taxes and fees are extra but appear to be prorated based on monthly rates.
Eligible tablets include most iPads with eSIM capability; a full list is in the press release. The AT&T press release also states that AT&T plans to add Android and other devices in the near future, as well as longer-term options like weekend and multi-day passes.
Getting the plan does not require an app or visiting the AT&T website - the iPads must be unlocked, and the plan can be accessed directly in the cellular data settings of the device.
Detailed instructions are in AT&T's support article.
Overall, this plan is a great value for anyone who needs short-term data on an iPad. The plan will become even more valuable if and when AT&T expands to other devices and term lengths.
