Key Points:
- Inseego has launched the MiFi PRO M4 (M4000 series), now available from AT&T ($209.99) and T-Mobile Business ($199.99).
- The M4 utilizes the Qualcomm X72 cellular modem and supports dual-band Wi-Fi 7.
- The hotspot also includes a Gigabit Ethernet port and two TS-9 antenna ports.
Inseego is finally expanding its mobile hotspot lineup with a new series called the MiFi PRO M4. This is the first new hotspot from Inseego since the M3000B was released way back in November 2022.
Compared to the previous generation, the MiFi PRO M4 moves to the newer Qualcomm X72 modem and supports Wi-Fi 7.
The new hotspot is well-priced at $209.99 for the AT&T model and $199.99 for the T-Mobile Business model.
Is this new hotspot worth considering? Let's dig into the details...

MiFi PRO M4 Specifications
Like previous Inseego hotspots, the MiFi PRO M4 is offered in carrier-specific variants that share the same core hardware but differ in supported cellular bands.
The AT&T (Model #: M4040) and T-Mobile Business (Model #: M4020) are the same basic device, but differ in the cellular bands they support:
AT&T (M4040)
- 5G Sub-6GHz: n2, n5, n14, n30, n41, n48, n66, n71, n77
- 5G mmWave: None
- LTE Bands: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 20, 26, 28, 29, 30, 38, 39, 40, 41, 48, 66, 71
T-Mobile Business (M4020)
- 5G Sub-6GHz: n25, n28, n41, n66, n71
- 5G mmWave: None
- LTE Bands: 2, 4, 12, 25, 26, 66, 71
The T-Mobile version is very limited in band support, only supporting T-Mobile's core bands. The AT&T version, by contrast, has much wider band support, but still lacks many of the core bands used by T-Mobile and Verizon.
In short, these hotspots, like previous carrier-sold hotspots, are optimized for a specific carrier and come with some major compromises for multi-carrier use.
It's also a disappointment to see the X72 modem instead of an X75, although the X72 likely explains the low price. Netgear launched an X75 mobile hotspot for AT&T with the M7 Pro back in 2024 and then a global eSIM model with the X72 this January.
LAN Connection Options

For LAN connections, the M4 includes the usual hotspot options:
- Ethernet - Via the Gigabit Ethernet port
- USB - Via the USB-C charging/tethering port
- Wi-Fi - Wi-Fi 7, but only dual-band (6 GHz is not supported)
Battery & Always-On Operation
One nice change from previous Inseego mobile hotspots is that the new M4 can be used without the battery, a feature Netgear hotspots have had for many years.
Additionally, like almost every major modern hotspot, the M4 supports a battery-saving mode for extended use while plugged in. This allows the device to operate continuously without keeping the battery fully charged at all times, helping reduce long-term battery wear and making it more practical for always-on setups.
For users who run hotspots continuously, the ability to remove the battery and keep it powered is a great addition. It's important to keep on top of potential battery issues.
External Antenna Support
Unlike the last two generations of Inseego 5G hotspots, the M4 includes dual TS-9 external antenna ports, allowing users to connect an external antenna to improve signal performance.
While this likely reduces the device to 2x2 MIMO instead of 4x4 via the internal antennas, the option to use an external antenna in challenging signal environments gives greater flexibility. Albeit, in a 5G world using an external 2x2 antenna has less benefits than it once did.
Other Features
Here are some other features of note:
- Cloud Management - An optional feature via Inseego Connect.
- VPN Support - Supports OpenVPN and VPN Passthrough
Availability and Pricing

The MiFi PRO M4 is now available for AT&T and T-Mobile Business for $209.99 and $199.99, respectively.
Currently, both are only available directly from each carrier, though we expect them to eventually become available from other sellers.
This is a very good price point for an X72 hotspot with the M4's feature set. The Netgear M7 Pro from AT&T is more than twice the price at $449.99, but it does have the faster X75 modem.
It's the same price as the Franklin A70, which also has an X72 modem. At press time, the A70 was still listed on AT&T's website, but it was marked as out of stock, so this new Inseego model is likely a replacement.
Potential Verizon Version?
The FCC filings for this new hotspot suggest a Verizon version may also be coming. Inseego would not confirm this when we inquired, but Inseego has long been primarily a mobile hotspot provider for Verizon, and the FCC filings show that the approved base model supports Verizon cellular bands.
Concluding Thoughts
Overall, the new Inseego MiFi PRO M4 looks like a competent mobile hotspot at an attractive price.
But it's also nothing exciting. As we recently covered in our Mobile Hotspot Industry Update, the hotspot market is finally innovating with new features and capabilities, but this new Inseego hotspot is not part of that trend.
It's also disappointing that Inseego is late to the party with an X72 hotspot, particularly given that AT&T launched an X75 hotspot back in 2024.
That said, Inseego announced the next M5000 series last year, which will feature the X82/X85, though there is no timeline for their availability. But considering Inseego is just now launching hotspots with the X72, the M5000 series is probably not coming soon.
