T-Mobile's AWAY plan lineup is a mobile-friendly option specifically designed for RVers and others who frequently travel in the United States. It is designed as a mobile-compatible version of the popular fixed-location Home Internet plans. The top-tier Unlimited AWAY plan offers unlimited data anywhere on T-Mobile's network and requires a 5G gateway for $160/month.
Good Sam, the popular RV membership club, now offers AWAY plans to Good Sam members through its website at a discount. Here is the pricing, which includes the autopay discount:
- Home Internet AWAY Unlimited - $145/month ($15 discount - $160 from T-Mobile)
- Home Internet AWAY 200GB - $100/month ($10 discount - $110 from T-Mobile)
- Home Internet AWAY 100GB - $65/month ($5 discount - $70 from T-Mobile)
All the terms of the T-Mobile AWAY plans are the same except the price.
Good Sam offers three membership levels, and the top two levels are eligible for discounted pricing: Standard for $39/year and Elite for $149/year (currently discounted to $99).
While we have always liked the AWAY plans as a concept - providing unlimited high-speed data specifically authorized for mobile use and marketed to the RV and nomad community - the expensive pricing at $160/month is a major downside, and the primary reason we don't consider these plans one of our Top Picks. The discounted pricing from Good Sam improves the value, but even at $145, AWAY Unlimited is overpriced compared to alternatives, such as:
- Non-Profit T-Mobile plans, such as the Calyx Sprout plan, give unlimited 5G T-Mobile data for $500/year ($41.67/month).
- The Family RV Association (FRVA), formerly known as the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA), offers unlimited data on T-Mobile for $59.99/month.
Both of these options are also BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), meaning you can utilize them in any T-Mobile-compatible data-only device, while the AWAY plans require using a provided T-Mobile gateway.
