Peplink is a large and respected company in the high-end mobile networking space, particularly well known for providing cellular connectivity for everything from fleets of vehicles to cruise ships to dispersed corporate offices.
The Peplink Balance 310 series of routers is primarily intended for enterprise customers but can also be used by mobile users.
Product Variations
The current Peplink Balance 310 lineup models differ in terms of hardware generation, cellular modem and LAN options, available ports, and other specifications. Peplink has a confusing habit of reusing model names and numbers across products from completely different generations, each with different features and performance specifications. And within a model line, Peplink may offer multiple modem generations and options.
If considering a 310 series router, be sure you're getting the model, generation, and modem you want.
Peplink currently sells two generations of 310-series hardware.
The latest generation shares the same series name but has nothing in common with the previous generation. The new generation offers a different form factor and significantly improved internals for much faster routing and SpeedFusion performance. This is the 5th-generation hardware (HW5).
- Balance 310 (HW5) - 4x 10 Gbps LAN Ethernet, 2x 2.5 Gbps WAN Ethernet, no Wi-Fi, no cellular, no USB tethering, 4 Gbps routing, 1 Gbps SpeedFusion. $999
The older generation consists of the following models:
- Balance 310X - 9x 1 Gbps LAN Ethernet, 2x 1 Gbps WAN Ethernet, no Wi-Fi, x62 5G cellular (dual modem optional), dual USB, 2.5 Gbps routing, 500 Mbps SpeedFusion. $3,999
- Balance 310 5G - 5x 1 Gbps LAN Ethernet, 2x Fiber LAN, 1x 1 Gbps WAN Ethernet, no Wi-Fi, x62 5G cellular + Cat-12 LTE, 1 Gbps routing, 500 Mbps SpeedFusion. $1,999
- Balance 310 Fiber 5G - 5x 1 Gbps LAN Ethernet, 1x Fiber LAN, 1x Fiber WAN, 1x 1 Gbps WAN Ethernet, Wi-Fi 5, x62 5G cellular, 1 Gbps routing, 500 Mbps SpeedFusion. $1,999
These models have several variants, with different modem options and regional configurations.
Balance 310
The Balance 310 is based on a new generation of hardware (HW5) that delivers significantly higher performance in a smaller form factor than the previous generation. The Balance 310 delivers core throughput of 4 Gbps, with 1 Gbps SpeedFusion capability.
This model can serve as a routing hub, but it does not include built-in Wi-Fi or Cellular WAN capability.

Routers can serve as a central conductor of your local area network in your RV and boat. Mobile routers are different from residential routers in that they typically support multiple internet sources like cellular and Wi-Fi, can be powered off of 12v or AC and support external antenna for better receiving signal.
But you might not need a router in your setup. Here's a quick video overview the variety that routers come in:
