Glossary Definition for: Refarming

When cellular carriers shut down older networks, they free up frequency spectrum that they can then reuse to support newer technologies. This process is called refarming the network.
The downside of refarming is that devices based upon older technologies will get slower and less coverage, and eventually become useless. But newer technologies are much faster and more efficient, making things (eventually) better for everyone.
